CEBU, Philippines - At least 148 students from various schools have enlisted for the Special Program for Employment of Students of the Cebu provincial government.
Since January, the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) has been accepting applicants, especially students who are in their second year and third year in college.
The SPES is mandated under Republic Act 7323, otherwise known as An Act to Help Deserving Students Pursue their Education, by Encouraging their Employment during Summer and or Christmas Vacation.”
Only students who complied with their requirements are qualified to avail themselves of the summer jobs and will be given recommendation letters from PESO-Capitol for them to submit to the company where they will apply based on their ages and qualifications or know-how if there is any.
Some of the participating private entities are the Visayan Electric Company (VECO), Gaisano-Capital, Metro Ayala and Brutus Foods.
Vacancies to be filled up in different private firms are 75 positions and qualified applicants have to render services for a minimum of 20 days up to a maximum of 45 days depending on the nature of the job.
Sixty percent of their salaries will be shouldered by the concerned private firms while the forty percent will be shared by the Department of Labor and Employment. —Johanna T. Natavio/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
