2 hurt in shooting, stabbing incidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two minors were injured in separate shooting and stabbing incidents in Cebu City.

In the first incident, a 16-year-old boy was shot by an unidentified person early morning yesterday in sitio Silangan 2, barangay Tejero.

The victim told the police that he just arrived in the port area around 5 a.m. on board a ship from Butuan City then went to the said place to ask around for his relatives surnamed Cabrera.

He later heard a gunshot and ran off after he saw that he had been grazed in the back.

Barangay tanods later came and brought him to the Cebu City Medical Center.

The second incident happened in an interior portion of barangay Mambaling around 9:20 p.m. last Wednesday when a 17-year-old scavenger was mauled and stabbed by four men.

One of the suspects, Alexander Barcenas, 19, of sitio Almacin, barangay Calamba, was arrested while a certain “Mark John” and two other men escaped.

The victim told the police that he was with a friend on their way to visit their girlfriends when they passed by the alleged assailants who were drinking liquor along the road.

The victim’s girlfriend introduced them to the alleged assailants who later brought the two to an area outside an Internet café where they helped one another in mauling the victim.

Mark John then allegedly stabbed the victim with an ice pick in the right portion side of his chest.

Policemen who were in the area conducting a follow-up regarding a robbery incident were able to arrest Barcenas while the rest of the suspects managed to flee. The victim was taken to CCMC.
