Makati wins national title for 'Most Child Friendly'

CEBU, Philippines - Makati beat Cebu and other finalists in the national finals of the search for the Most Child Friendly City.

Despite failing to bag the title, having made it as national finalist is already a major feat for Cebu City.

The queen City of the South has been named as regional winner for four consecutive years.

Cathy Yso, the City Social Welfare Services Officer, yesterday reported to City Administrator Francisco ‘Bimbo’ Fernandez the result of the national finals.

Aside from the search for the city level, there was also a contest for the component cities along with the first to third class municipalities and one for fourth to sixth class municipalities.

A study made by the Institute of Philippine Culture in 2007 revealed Cebu City is the most outstanding child friendly city compared with Manila, Pasay, Quezon and Davao.

It stated that various non-government organizations and the Cebu City government have a partnership that expands the capacity of the communities to ensure the survival, development, protection and participation of children.

Cebu City government also pioneered programs that protect children in conflict with the law (CICL) and children who are victims of abuses.
