Dumpit figures in another controversy
CEBU, Philippines - Controversial policeman SPO1 Adonis Dumpit of the Cebu City Police Office has once again figured in another controversy.
Reports that reached CCPO said Dumpit, who has become one of Mayor-on-leave Tomas Osmeña’s favorite bodyguards, allegedly fired a gun last Tuesday evening in barangay Tejero where he is a resident of.
Chief Insp. Goerge Ylanan, chief of CCPO’s Investigation and Detective Management Branch said they received a telephone call from a concerned citizen saying Dumpit was drunk and fired his gun.
Prior to the incident, the informant said the concerned policeman had an altercation over a traffic problem with an alleged neighbor near the old Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center along M.J. Cuenco Avenue.
The “neighbor” who Dumpit had allegedly a problem with later turned out to be Janice Nodalo, the widow of the late notorious robber Joel “Tongol” Nodalo.
The policeman has once filed a libel case in court against her for announcing in a radio interview that he (Dumpit) was the one who gunned down her husband in June 2005.
Ylanan said they received a shooting alarm but when he arrived at the area to investigate, he saw Dumpit and his Toyota Tamaraw FX and the vehicle driven by the driver of his neighbor Nodalo.
“Pag-abot namo sa area, mingaw na. Si Dumpit na lang ang tua didto,” Ylanan said.
Ylanan said Dumpit told them that the incident was just a simple traffic altercation and that they have already settled it.
Upon their arrival in the area, Ylanan said the driver of Nodalo told him to set him free as his passengers, who fled after Dumpit allegedly went wild and fired his gun, would go back to Lapu-Lapu City.
Nodalo and the other passengers of the Ford vehicle allegedly ran for fear of Dumpit but she was later identified through the ID that she left in the car.
Ylanan said he asked the residents around but they refused to make any comment. He challenged the witnesses to file a complaint against Dumpit and he waited until yesterday evening but no one reported to his office to file a complaint.
The IDMB chief informed that Dumpit stayed at the CCPO the whole day last Monday as he also graduated that day from the Senior Leadership Course at the Regional Training Service. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/WAB(THE FREEMAN)
