JICA establishing MCWD masterplan
CEBU, Philippines - The Japan International Agency Cooperation (JICA) is currently establishing an overall masterplan on the water supply of Metropolitan Cebu Water District.
MCWD general manager Armando Paredes said that since last month, JICA has been conducting the study which is expected to be finished in a year and half.
Aside from the study on MCWD’s water supply status, JICA will also study the sanitation of its water coming from the ground sources.
Paredes added that through the study, the total number of population that the MCWD is serving will also be made known considering that its current data was still gathered in 1995.
MCWD has about 800,000 to 900,000 customers and the number is increasing due to population growth.
To cope with the increasing demand, Paredes said that MCWD is embarking on an in-house water source development such as well drillings to draw out 25,000 to 30,000 cubic meters of water daily in the next three years.
Paredes said the water utility would continue to look for more water sources in its bid to improve its service. – Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
