CEBU, Philippines - Presentations on film, dance, music and literature were on show yesterday at the Cebu International Convention Center on the third day of the One Visayas exhibit.
The day’s activity started with an Iloilo short film showing and the “Calbayog Lakub” from Samar Province.
The “Ang Musika” of Southern Leyte was also presented along with the Kalipayan Dance Company who entertained visiting students and teachers.
Yesterday the book launching of Dr. Erlinda Alburo’s “A dictionary of Bisayan Arts, Cebuano, Hiligaynon and Waray” was also held.
Alburo also had an earlier lecture entitled “Cebuano Language as a Heritage”.
Today’s activities will again showcase dance and music from other regions of the Visayas.
Meanwhile, the Sinugbuano language which established for the people of Central Visayas a unifying cultural identity was yesterday highlighted through a film screening, along with the other arts of the humanities – dance, music and literature, on the third day of the “One Visayas (A Showcase of Culture and the Arts of Regions 6, 7 and 8)” event at the Cebu International Convention Center.
In four short films independently produced by Cebuano filmmakers, the language was used in the works of Frank Calmita of the SineBuano group for “Serante Serrano”, in Publio Briones’ “Babaylan”, in “Di Na Lagi Mausab” from Panumduman Media Productions, and in “Humamai” on the conversion of Humabon’s wife to Christianity and on how Sinulog, the worship dance, came to be.
More films in the Visayan tongue will be featured today, starting with Bacolod City’s full-length film showing. Three short digital films from Samar will be shown at 3 p.m.
In relation to movie productions, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts will conduct a lecture on independent filmmaking at 3 p.m. of tomorrow, March 5. Musical scoring and sound engineering for film will be tackled by Bigfoot, a film school and production outfit based in Lapu-Lapu City, on March 7 at 10 a.m. – Johanna Natavio and Maria Eleanor Valeros/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
