2 men hurt in twin stabbing incidents

CEBU, Philippines – At least two persons were injured in separate stabbing incidents last Friday night in barangays Sto. Niño and Duljo Fatima in Cebu City.

The first incident happened at around 5:30 p.m. along P. Burgos Street, barangay Sto. Niño where one Joshua Albotra, 39, a jeepney dispatcher and resident of sitio Nazaret, barangay Buhisan, was stabbed by a certain “Suki,” a resident of barangay Ermita.

Albotra told police investigators that he was standing in front of a bank when the suspect arrived and suddenly punched him in the face that resulted in a fistfight.

The victim said the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed him several times, hitting his left chest, stomach and left wrist and then fled.

A concerned citizen rushed the bleeding victim to Cebu City Medical Center for treatment on board a motorcycle.

Albotra alleged that the suspect got mad at him because earlier that afternoon, he and the suspect’s wife figured in a verbal altercation over the irregularity in the computation of the payment for a product he bought from her.

Barely three hours later, another man was stabbed in sitio Lawis Nava, barangay Duljo Fatima where Noli Banawa, 24, resident of Sunrise Village, brgy. Pardo was stabbed by a certain “Dennis,” about 20 years old and a laborer in Carbon market.

Banawa said he went to the place to visit his live-in partner, Rosanna Toring and their daughter and while he was sitting outside the house along a small alley, the suspect came and told him, “Boanga nimo uy. Traydor man ka” then suddenly boxed him on the face and stabbed him several times.

Despite the injuries he sustained in the right chest and left armpit, the victim alleged he tried to fight back and was able to disarm the suspect prompting him to run away.

Banawa then rode a “trisikad” and later transferred to a passing Mobile Patrol Group car that brought him to the CCMC for treament.

The victim claimed Dennis has been wrongfully accusing him of telling anybody that he was the one responsible for the lost pushcart in Carbon market a month ago. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
