CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has created a technical working group that would craft the Sumilon Island Ecotourism Development Plan.
The group would also be tasked to assess the situation of the island so appropriate measures could be put in place to enhance its development into a prime ecotourism destination. In her Executive Order No. 04 signed last February 16, Garcia said the development of Sumilon Island is consistent with the goals to develop the country’s natural resources.
The technical working group, which will be headed by the governor, has 19 members.
Sumilon, which means “take refuge,” is located in barangay Bangcogon on the southern tip of Oslob. It has unspoiled natural environment and diverse marine resources.
The 24-hectare island is a marine sanctuary with pristine white sand beaches and crystal clear water. From the main Oslob town, Sumilon can be reached through a 15-minute boat ride. — Garry B. Lao/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
