Gunmaker hits co-worker while testing new gun

CEBU, Philippines - A gun maker in Danao City landed in the hospital after he was hit twice in the abdomen by bullets of a gun his co-worker had just finished assembling.

The victim was identified as Jacob Congzon, 28, while the suspect was identified as Jeremiaz Capul, 45, married. Both are workers of the World Multipurpose Cooperative in barangay Dungguan in Danao City.

SPO4 Edgar Gomez of the Danao City police said the accident happened past 3 p.m. last Friday when Capul was testing a 9mm pistol he had just finished making.

The pistol allegedly misfired and hit Congzon who was chatting with another co-worker nearby.

Congzon was then rushed to the Danao City District Hospital but was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for further treatment. Capul was placed under arrest awaiting the filing of charges against him by the victim’s family.

The firing area is located just outside the main door of the cooperative where Capul was chatting with his co-worker. It is said that a bell is usually rung when someone tests a newly made gun. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
