CEBU, Philippines - A restaurant in barangay Lahug is now the subject of a complaint from residents of the place because of the alleged intolerable noise and loud music from the live bands performing late at night.
Ciriano Salazar Jr., a resident of Gorordo Avenue, sent a letter to Councilor Edgardo Labella, hoping that the problem of the residents near the Fisherman’s Net Restaurant can be given immediate action.
Salazar said he and his neighbors around the establishment, which is near JY Square, complained because they are disturbed when bands start playing loud music, accompanied by shouts and laughter of “drunken customers”.
He said this happens almost every night and even extends until the wee hours of the morning.
“This has been going on for some time now and we have even complained to the police, but to no avail,” Salazar said in his letter.
According to Salazar he and his neighbors consider the establishment detriment to their health because the students who are living in the place cannot sleep well.
The complainant said he has a daughter who is a working mother and an elderly wife who badly needs rest.
The city’s existing anti-noise ordinance requires establishment owners to ensure that their activity will not cause disturbance to the people, particularly if the place is residential.
The establishment owners are required to install sound reduction devices in their firms. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
