Tommy will be home for 2 weeks in March

-

CEBU, Philippines - Mayor on-leave Tomas Osmeña yesterday confirmed that he will be in Cebu City on March 8 and will stay here for two weeks to meet with his friends and political supporters, but most of all to entertain prospective investors for the South Road Properties.

Osmeña, who is still in Houston, Texas for treatment of the cancer of his urinary bladder, said he is scheduled to leave from the United States on March 6 (March 7 in the Philippines) and will arrive Cebu the following day.

The 60-year old mayor said he slowly regained his strength after he had undergone the fifth chemotherapy session to possibly kill the cancer virus on his urinary bladder.

He wants to be in Cebu during the 72nd City Charter day anniversary on February 24, but he is scheduled to undergo another chemotherapy session during that week.

Many of his political supporters said that they have already missed the mayor and wish to see him during his two weeks stay in Cebu City until on March 21.

Osmeña, who is already bald because of the series of chemotherapy sessions, said he does not mind his appearance, saying that his vision now is to sell the SRP lots speed up the economic growth of Cebu City.

The mayor on-leave earlier told The FREEMAN that a big company is negotia-ting with the city to build a hospital at the SRP that is accredited with the US-based insurance companies.

Osmeña said if this will be materialized it will encourage the Filipino-American reti-rees to come home and to stay in Cebu City because it would already be easy for them once they need to be hospitalized.

He said as of now none of the Cebu-based hospitals is accredited by any of the US-based insurance companies where these Filipino-Americans are insured. — Rene U. Borromeo/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
