"Suroy-Suroy Sugbo" collects P1.4 million sales

-

CEBU, Philippines – In the highlights of January operations presented by the Office of the Governor yesterday, the “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo” raked in total gross sales of P1,492,060.

This after around 200 balikbayans from Las Vegas and other tourists from Canada, Dubai, Spain, Japan and India, as well as local guests, joined in the “Southern Heritage Trail” caravan from January 21 to 23.

The 18th staging of the “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo” was said to be with the most number of participants since the tourism program was launched in 2004.

The provincial government is in the process of arranging a special trip for the Chinese delegation from Guangdong that will be arriving next month in line with the forging of sisterhood relations.

It is hoped that the success of the latest staging of Suroy-Suroy will spark deeper interest for Cebu among many travelers.

As for the presentation of accomplishments of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, it was learned that the OPA had already conducted trainings on the production of lakatan (a variety of banana) in Danao City and that around 60 farmers there received lakatan seedlings to begin propagation. The training was also carried out in Aloguinsan town.

Another 125 participants from Carmen and Catmon towns, and Toledo City received a series of training on organic farming. Application of organic agriculture led to the hauling of 1,125 bags of dung from chicken farms in said places to be distributed in neighboring municipalities.

The presentation of project accomplishments also mentioned sweet potato production, inland fishery, and the construction of the provincial nursery and farmers training center. — AJ de la Torre/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
