BOC-7 surpasses January collection target
CEBU – Despite the significant decrease in importation, collections by the Bureau of Customs – District VII for January exceeded its target collection by at least P3 million, said BOC collection division chief Conrado Abarintos.
In his report to BOC assessment division chief Carlos Corsiga, Abarintos said last month’s total collection amounted to P418,377,383, higher than P3,377,383.10 than the target collection of P415 million.
BOC in Central Visayas has a daily collection target of P20,750,000 to reach the P6 billion target for 2009.
A decrease of 46.29 percent was noted in last month’s volume of importation totaling 145,884.66 tons compared to the 271,633.99 tons in January last year.
Meanwhile, the Department of Finance’s Revenue Performance Evaluation Board will release this month the list of 10 officials from BOC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue who will face penalty for falling short of their targets.
Republic Act 9335 or the Lateral Attrition Act of 2005 provides that BIR and BOC personnel who fall short of their goals by at least 7.5 percent are to be either dismissed from service or face reassignment.
The law also provides that over-performers would be given a collective incentive amounting to 15 percent of the excess collection if surplus reaches 30 percent or below and 15 percent of the first 30 percent, plus 20 percent if they surpass collections by 30 percent. — Mitchelle L.
