Controversial cop in trouble again

CEBU - While still facing an investigation after losing his temper over the delay in the issuance of their Christmas bonus in December, PO2 Pepito Layague again got himself into trouble when he figured in trouble that occurred inside a cockpit area in barangay Antipolo, Medellin last Monday afternoon.

This time, Layague, who is assigned in Tudela, Camotes Island but a resident of Bogo City, allegedly had a “fight” against Marianito Yaun, the barangay captain of the place where the incident happened.

Reports that reached Cebu Provincial Police Office said that at around 4:30 p.m., the concerned policeman together with a certain Kate Precillas, allegedly went to the cockpit area.

As the betting continues, Layague allegedly pushed Yaun who also retaliated by pushing back the policeman that resulted in a clash between the two. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard that made the people in the area panic and scamper away for safety.

At around 4:50 p.m., a concerned citizen called up Medellin Police Station to report a trouble alarm that occurred inside the cockpit area.

However, during interrogation, Layague admitted he was inside the cockpit but denied he was the one who fired a shot.

Supt. Erson Digal, CPPO deputy for administration, said he already directed Medellin police chief Bonifacio Ariesgado to make an investigation into the incident and submit the result to his office.

Digal said that since policemen are prohibited to go inside a cockpit arena, Layague will be facing an administrative case for the incident. He added that Yaun could also file a criminal case against the police officer for what happened.

“Kung wala pa lang to niya gisiko ang kapitan ok ra ta to kay dili man diay kuno siya ang nagpabuto. Ang iyaha lang nganung niadto siya’g buwangan nga gidili man na namo,” Digal said.

Layague also figured in controversy last year, when he went to the CPPO headquarters while drunk and shouted at the finance officers over the delay in the release of his Christmas bonus. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/WAB   (THE FREEMAN)
