Town establishes own water district

-

CEBU - To provide its residents with safe and potable water, the municipal government of Daanbantayan has created its local water district known as Daanbantayan Water District.

Each barangay would be managing its own water system that would be supervised by Local Water Utilities Authority (LWUA).

Vice Mayor Maria Luisa Loot said the upgrading of Daanbantayan into first class municipality prompted her and her son, Mayor Sun Shimura, to create a water district out of the existing water systems in the barangays.

With the creation of the water district, she explained that their constituents in far flung areas can now be served with safe and potable water of standardized rate.

She said that like what she did when she was mayor, when she provided electricity up to the remotest sitios in the municipality, their administration is now focusing on water and other basic needs.

“Sayud ko nga malipay and labaw’ng Makagagahum niining atong gitinguha nga serbisyo publiko,” Loot said.

Engr. Ma. Eda Censon, LWUA representative, encouraged the barangay captains to support the project.

Censon said that LWUA will provide technical assistance in the operation of the local water district which is expected to provide local employment soon.

Elected as general manager of the Daanbantayan Water District is Gregorio Montana and the chairman of the board is Rev. Fr. Rossdel Noel of the St. Michael Archangel Parish in Tapilon. Members of the board are Isidro Rodrigo, Gloria Tuñacao, George Malinao and Lowella Tohay who are the heads of the water systems in their respective barangays. — Gregg M.
