Durano to put up water system in Carmen barangays

-

CEBU – The residents of the mountain barangays of Carmen town will soon have ample water supply after Fifth District Rep. Ramon “Red” Durano promised to set aside funds to finance the putting up of a water system in the place.

During the inauguration of a school building in barangay Hagnaya, where he was the guest of honor, Durano claimed that he received numerous complaints from the residents that they experienced lack of water supply.

The solon said it is ironic that Carmen is known for having abundant water sources and in fact, a company engaged in the business of bottled water gets their supply there, but some barangays of the town suffer from scarcity of water.

He said his office have been prioritizing the allocation of funds for the construction of school buildings and now is the right time for him to also give focus on the problem of water supply at the mountain barangays.

“Barangay officials have been telling me about this problem of sufficient water supply here in the mountain barangays, so I am prodding them to hasten and pass their resolution so we can immediately answer this. Seeing the development in the barangays like opening of roads and our infra projects, it’s high time to give a solution to this water problem,” Durano said.

According to him, the problem must be addressed immediately because water is very crucial in everyday living and the residents might be infected with diseases if they don’t have a proper source of potable water.

“We don’t want to wait for anything bad to happen before we could act on it. I will be asking the support from the engineering office to look into this,” he added.

Durano directed the officials of the barangays to come up with their respective resolutions so he could immediately allocate fund for their projects on water.

The blessing and inauguration of the new 3-classroom building of Hagnaya Elementary School was attended by Mayor Sonia Pua and Vice Mayor Martin Gerard Villamor and several town and Hagnaya barangay officials.

The P1.2-million building was built after the congressman recommended to the Department of Education to prioritize its funding. — Jose P. Sollano/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
