-

Cebu - The Department of Education will be giving away brand new school equipment and laboratory for the winning school that will win this year’s search for best school forest park.

“I am encouraging all high schools in the region to join the search,” said DepEd regional director Recaredo Borgonia. Region VII has over 400 public high schools.

According to Borgonia, the search is one way of helping the environment and making the students conscious of the environment.

This nationwide search is set to be launched next week in a joint project by Luntiang Pilipinas that will be spearheaded by Sen. Loren Legarda.

The nationwide search for the best school forest park is a competition among all public high schools nationwide that are enjoined to establish forest parks in their respective campuses. Deadline of submission is on February 27.

For a school that has a small area, it may designate 100 meters of its campus which maybe made into a forest park.

DepEd said that participating high schools may undertake planting of fruit-bearing trees, hard wood species, or any other appropriate species as determined by the Municipal Agriculture Resource Officer or the Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer.

Aside from planting trees, students are also encouraged to use their creativity and originality in designing and maintaining the forest parks.

Only one school forest park shall be chosen to represent the region which will also become a national finalist.

Regional winners will win a computer laboratory with 20 personal computer units. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
