NFA is top importer Among government agencies

Cebu - The National Food Authority has the biggest volume of importation among the government agencies.

This is because of the rice importation made last year, based on the records released by Carlos Corsiga, chief of the assessment division of the Bureau of Customs-Port of Cebu.

Records show that for 2008, BOC has a total non-cash collection worth P6,278,094,634 comprising importations made by the various government agencies.

Of the amount, NFA’s share is about P6.2 billion, according to Florante Ricarte, the assistant chief of the assessment division.

After the NFA, the Department of Health incurred P462,000 worth of importation equipment, and the Department of Agrarian Reform followed with P245,000 worth of importation equipment.

The non-cash collection of BOC-Collection District VII forms part of its entire 2008 collection amounting to P11,574,244,097.91.

BOC-Collection District VII includes the Port of Cebu, Port of Mactan, and the Port of Dumaguete, where cash collection for 2008 exceeded by P296,149,463.91 as P5,296,149,463.91 was collected out of the P5 billion target.

This year, the district has a target collection of P6 billion out of the BOC’s nationwide target collection of P317-billion set by the Department of Finance and the National Economic Development Authority. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
