CEBU - A woman was knocked unconscious after she jumped off the running jeepney in a middle of robbery the other night in front of University of Cebu Mandaue branch.
Twenty-year-old Arlene Navecilla, who works as production worker at the Mactan Export Processing Zone in barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City, suffered head injuries and was immediately brought by Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation personnel to the Mandaue City District hospital.
Navecilla was in the jeepney with three more passengers who worked at the Shangri-La Resort and Spa, and the suspected robber later identified as Loreto Surban, a resident sitio Tigib, barangay Malubog, Cebu City.
“Wa gyud ko magdahum nga tulisan diay to siya kay tarong man nga niplete,” PUJ driver Cirilo Pasucal said.
Surban got on the jeepney in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, and pulled out a gun and declared a robbery after they had passed the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.
This was when Navecilla panicked and jumped from the PUJ, hitting her head on the pavement.
“Naratol gyud to siya bisan nagdagan akong gidrayban nga PUJ. Nauna gyud ang iyang ulo,” said Pasucal, whose plies the Punta Engaño-Highway Mandaue route.
Surban was later arrested by Carbon station policeman PO1 Jose Rebosora who happened to be on another jeepney going to Lapu-Lapu City proper from serving as security detail for the Sinulog festivities.
However before Rebosora could arrest the suspect, unidentified bystanders mauled Surban.
Police authorities confiscated P6,850 from Surban, believed to have been taken from other robbery victims.
But Surban denied he stole the money and claimed they were his winnings from Lotto’s suwertres.
“Dili na tinuod sir kanang kuwarta gikan na sa daug nako sa suwertres sa Lotto,” Surban said.
As of yesterday evening doctors said Navecilla was already in stable condition. — Ramil V. Ayuman/BRP
