CEBU - At least twenty-four groups will participate in today’s massive clean up and beautification of the carousel route for Saturday’s holy procession and Sunday’s Sinulog Grand Parade.
This year, the Anti-Graffiti Task Force is being spearheaded by the Philippine Street Watch, Crusaders Guardians Brotherhood International, Incorporated and their local counterpart Delta Squad Guardians Crime Buster International, Incorporated.
Joining in today’s cleanup are Adamas Nu Omega, Alpha Sigma Nu, Alpha Sigma Phi, Alpha Kappa Rho, Alpha Phi Epsilon, Alpha Phi Upsilon, Beta Phi Sigma, Gamma Phi Sigma, Delta Gama Beta, Delta Phi Epsilon, Kappa Psi Gamma, Kappa Omega Sigma-Lambda, Pi Gamma Phi, Scout Royal Brotherhood/Sigma beta, Phi Lambda Epsilon, Phi Omicron Sigma, Upsilon Phi Omega, Tau Gamma Phi-Sigma, Tau Rho Lambda and Omega Pelta Kappa.
Members of the city’s Sangguniang Kabataan will also participate in the activity.
Councilor Richard Osmeña, head of the task force, said the clean up will start at 9am and will continue until afternoon on Sunday. It will cover the stretch from E-Mall to the Carreta cemetery and from Fuente Osmeña to the Abellana National High School.
“Surprisingly, when the public knew about this, many concerned citizens and companies pledged their support by donating paint,” Osmeña said.
Osmeña explained that the Anti Graffiti Task Force will not only be for the Sinulog but will continue to work throughout the year.
Acting Mayor Michael Rama himself said cleanliness should not only apply to the city’s major thoroughfares but to every nook and cranny possible.
“Cleanliness should be kept still in the other parts of the City. Garbage should be taken cared off properly in going to and from hotels and many others,” Rama said. — Ferliza C. Contratista and Bentley Naire C. Luyong, CIT MassCom Intern/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
