Shoemaker tagged in slay of girl falls

CEBU - One of the three men who shot dead a 14-year-old girl in barangay Liburon, Carcar City last Monday was arrested by the police early morning yesterday.

Elements of Carcar City police led by SPO1 Meliton Agadier have arrested Jessie Limasac, 29, a shoemaker and resident of sitio Oliveros, barangay Can-Asujan, in barangay Sangi around 6 a.m.

Police said there were actually three suspects, and not two as earlier reported, that shot and killed the young girl who was with her male and female friend when the incident happened.

Police investigator SPO3 Ruben Renes said that during an interrogation, Limasac admitted to the crime but refused to divulge the names of his two accomplices. The suspect also claimed that the victims were only mistaken and they were not their target.

At around 10 p.m. last Monday, the 14-year-old girl and her cousin were riding a motorcycle driven by a friend on their way to attend a fiesta celebration in sitio Mahayahay, barangay Liburon.

Not familiar with the way, the victim’s friend allegedly passed on the wrong way that made them decide to go back to the main road.

But three men, whose faces were covered withT-shirts, allegedly blocked their way, stoned them, and then shot them at close range using an unidentified caliber of firearm.

The victim, who was sitting in the middle, was seriously hit while her friend who drove the motorcycle was hit at the back and her cousin only sustained a gunpowder burn on his right arm.

The three were rushed to Jesus Paraz Memorial District Hospital where the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.

After receiving information on the whereabouts of the suspects, police made a continuous hot pursuit operation that resulted to the arrest of Limasac.

The police will file tomorrow the proper cases against Limasac and his companions who are still at large. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/WAB   (THE FREEMAN)
