Fund lack stalls bridge
CEBU - The construction of a bridge that will link barangay Guadalupe to Kalunasan in Cebu City in order to make the travel to barangay Lahug much shorter and easier was delayed due to lack of funds.
Councilor Joey Daluz III, chairman of the City Council committee on budget and finance, said the city still needs about P5 million to purchase more right of way and for the construction itself.
The construction of the bridge at Singson Subdivision in Guadalupe linking to sitio Oprra in Kalunasan was delayed after the P20-million original budget was already depleted.
Daluz said he will sponsor a resolution before the City Council for the appropriation of the needed funds to finish the project within this year or before their term will end in 2010.
“Paninguhaon g’yod namo nga mahuman na kining proyektoha karong tuiga para masulbad na ang traffic congestion sa Guadalupe, Escario ug sa Gorordo paingon sa Lahug,” Daluz said.
Aside from the funds for the construction of the bridge, the city also allocated millions of pesos for the purchase of the private lots for the rights-of-way in going to the approach of the bridge.
The bridge will be linked to Obedience St. that is already part of Kalunasan. Then the road will connect to Sudlon Road leading to Lahug.
Traffic authorities expect the volume of traffic along M. Velez St., Escario St. and Gorordo Ave. to be reduced once motorists have an alternative route to Lahug or Guadalupe. – Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
