Rama unsure of incentives for Sinulog street cleaners
CEBU - At least 500 City Hall personnel and volunteers will be cleaning the city streets immediately after the Sinulog grand parade on Sunday.
“Basta wala la’y uwan, among pasaligan nga malimpyo na namo ang tibuok syudad sa dili pa moabot ang buntag,” said Dionesio Gualiza, chief of the Department of Public Services.
And while it has been the practice of Mayor-on-leave Tomas Osmeña to give a sack of rice to the garbage collectors, street sweepers, and volunteers that helped in the cleaning, Acting Mayor Michael Rama said yesterday the city cannot promise to provide incentives this year.
The incentive was given because the cleaning personnel and volunteers were very efficient in removing garbage from the streets even before the sun would rise the next day.
Meanwhile, Rama has instructed Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem to ensure that the City Traffic Operations Management can properly regulate the flow of traffic during the solemn procession on Saturday, January 17, and during the grand parade itself the next day.
“Kinahanglan nga kun dili pa moagi ang procession ug ang Sinulog Mardi Gras, ang mga iskina dili usa sirad-an sa mga sakyanan,” Rama suggested yesterday.
He also directed that roads leading directly to hospitals should be clear of congestion for ambulances to easily get through in cases of emergency. — Rene U. Borromeo/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
