Woman claims parents, sister burned her house

Cebu - A woman accused her own parents and younger sister of setting her house on fire in barangay Mangaco, Ginatilan town, past 9 p.m. last Friday.

Avelina Damuag said it was her parents Demetrio Damuag, 76, and Angelina, 46; and her younger sibling who put her house to the torch.

SPO2 Arnold Omania of the Ginatilan Police said that in the morning of Friday, Avelina’s common-law husband Elmer Sanoy reported to work leaving her behind doing the laundry at a river nearby.

After some time, Avelina noticed smoke billowing from near their house. Alarmed, she ran to make a check. Upon reaching the area, she saw that her parents and sister from Oslob town were already outside the house burning her and Elmer’s clothes.

She even alleged that her father threatened to kill her if she reported the matter to the police.

When Elmer came home, Avelina told him of the incident. The couple decided to seek refuge at a neighbor’s house but the suspects reportedly went back in the evening and set the couple’s house on fire.

Firemen estimated the damage to have reached around P10,000.

A case for arson is expected to be filed by the couple against Avelina’s parents and sister today.

Information gathered by police revealed that the suspects accused Avelina of stealing the mobile phone of her younger sister when she paid her parents a visit in Oslob town recently. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
