CCPO wants medals for 2 police trainees
CEBU – Cebu City Police Office Director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador is recommending medals for the two police trainees who responded to a stabbing alarm in barangay Agsungot, Cebu City last Thursday.
PO1 Daryl Velasco was wounded by a drunken man identified as Noel Ermac while PO1 Eric Diamante shot Ermac dead with an armalite rifle.
Earlier, barangay tanods went to calm Ermac after he got drunk and unruly at his father’s wake.
When he stabbed one of them, the tanods called up the police, and Velasco and Diamante, who were assigned to the Talamban Police Station, responded to the alarm with PO3 Jumar Viscara.
When they arrived at the scene the suspect, ran away but later returned to attack Velasco with a bolo, hacking him in the face and neck before being shot dead by Diamante.
Velasco is still confined at the Chong Hua Hospital but is now out of danger.
Commendador said that risks are part of the job of a policeman and the trainees should be appreciated for what they did. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc and Guam Logroño/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
