Inayawan resident faces murder charge
CEBU - A 38-year-old man was charged with murder before the Regional Trial Court yesterday for allegedly killing his neighbor in sitio Babao, barangay Inayawan, Cebu City last July 22.
Rowena Fernandez, wife of victim Anecito Fernandez, filed murder charges against their neighbor, Glenn Ababon, in relation to the stabbing to death of Anecito on the evening of July 22 for no apparent reason.
In a clarificatory investigation done by second assistant city prosecutor Liceria Lofranco-Rabillas, witnesses said that Anecito was watching neighbors engaged in a card game when the suspect, armed with a knife, stabbed the victim dead. One of the witnesses, Lorna Samson, recounted that on that night, she saw Ababon went out of his house carrying a knife, and then attacked Anecito, who was engrossed with the card game.
Two barangay officials of Inayawan also said that when the suspect surrendered to them, he admitted committing the crime and said in vernacular, “at last he was able to get back at the victim.”
But Ababon claimed that he was only defending himself from being stabbed by Anecito as the latter allegedly punched him and was about to stab him with a knife.
The suspect said he wrestled for the knife, but stabbed Anecito in the process.
Ababon is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
