Cebu City acting mayor Michael Rama yesterday called on City Hall employees to emulate Dr. Jose Rizal, as the city government led the commemoration of the national hero’s 112th death anniversary.
“Let us not debase our calling to public service with greed to acquire wealth while in power. As we meet our end, we can never be proud like Rizal to face death when we are so corrupt inside and out,” Rama said in a speech.
Rama said public servants need to grow as “true blue Filipinos with great pride and nationalism” considering that public servants do not only serve their friends but the public in general.
Rama said every leader should observe the value of nationalism to enable him to embrace that challenge of public service above self.
“Let us be heroes in our own little way.” Rama said.
One little way to show nationalism, he said, is by participating in the flag ceremony and singing the national anthem with fervor.
Rama said the current economic and political turmoil can be successfully surpassed if the people would face them with the same firm resolve and love for country like that of Rizal. — Harry Vincent H. Cañeda, CIT Masscom Intern (THE FREEMAN)
