CEBU – Governor Gwen Garcia has lauded the Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Cebu Council for their training and activities to prepare the youth to become future leaders.
Speaking during the opening program of the 8th Cebu Council Jamborette in barangay Poblacion, Carmen town, Governor Garcia said the BSP is of great help to the youths, especially in making them good leaders.
Garcia admitted the need to teach the youth moral values and inculcate in their minds the importance of honesty, integrity, truthfulness and industry.
This year’s jamborette theme is “Creating a better World, one day at the time”.
The governor also challenged the boy scouts and scouters, mostly coming from the different municipalities in Cebu province to give importance to these activities.
“Gikinahanglan gayud kaayo nga ang atong mga kabatan-onan mahatagan sa maayong pundasyon gumikan kay sila mao man ang umaabot nga mangulo sa atong nasod,” she said.
Garcia also thanked the BSP-Cebu Council headed by businessman Hernando Streegan for selecting Carmen town as the venue of their jamborette.
Streegan shared the observation of Garcia to dedicate jamborette in honor of the late Carmen mayor Virginio “Benyong” Villamor, who died of lung cancer last Thursday evening.
According to Streegan, Villamor was an active member of the Cebu Council and helped the council in every activity and his death is not only the big loss to the Carmenanons but also to the Cebu Council.
Streegan also thanked Mayor Sonia Pua, Vice Mayor Martin Gerard Villamor and members of the municipal council for their full support of the four-day affair.
Pua said that it is a big honor for the town of Carmen to host this event and show their visitors the hospitality of the Carmenanons.
