One dead, one critical in Daanbantayan accident

CEBU – A man was killed while his companion sustained major injuries after they were thrown off the motorcycle they were riding when the vehicle hit a pothole.

The incident happened late evening last Friday in front of the barangay hall in Malbago, a village situated at the center of Daanbantayan town. The driver, identified as Allan Quicio, 33, married, was pronounced dead at the Daanbantayan District Hospital.

His friend, identified as Romulo Ygot, 53, was transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for treatment. Both were reportedly drunk when the accident happened.

Investigation revealed that the motorcycle, bearing plate no. 4719K, was traveling fast and did not notice the pothole in front of the Malbago barangay hall.

The impact reportedly pierced the front wheel of the motorcycle and forced the vehicle to a sudden stop, throwing the two men off the bike to the road.

PO3 Mario Versoza of the Daanbantayan Police Station said the victims were heading to the neighboring city of Bogo when the accident occurred.

Further investigation is still underway. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
