Girl killed, grandma hurt in road accident
CEBU - A five-year-old girl was killed while her grandmother suffered injuries after they were hit by a multicab while they were walking along the national highway in barangay Dungo-an, Danao City around 11:50 a.m. last Thursday.
The victims were identified as Petronila Hermoso, 69, a resident of said place and her granddaughter Chris-an Dejito.
The driver of the white Suzuki multicab with plate no. YGT-723 was identified as Ruth Novabos, a piggery owner who comes from Borbon town but lives in Carmen town. With him in the vehicle were his live-in partner Margarita Gacuson, their eight-month-old baby and their helpers Dennis Pupa and Paulito Banzon.
SPO1 Renante Manulat, chief investigator of Danao City traffic police, said Novabos was heading to Carmen after buying food for his pigs in Danao City. He was overtaking a tricycle when he hit Hermoso who was carrying her granddaughter.
The multicab then crashed into an abandoned store.
“Nalabay jud si Hermoso unya ang bata napasok sa multicab, dayun wa pa jud ni nihunong nabagnus pa jud pag maayo ang bata. Diha ra ni nihunong ang multicab sa dihang nibangga ni siya sa gi-abandon nga tindahan,” Manulat said.
The girl and Hermoso were brought to the Danao District Hospital, but the girl was later declared dead while Hermoso transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for head injuries.
The relatives of the two will no longer file a case against Novabos after he offered an amicable settlement.
“Wa nalang mo-file og kaso ang kabanay sa mga biktima kay gasto napud, makig-areglo nalang sila,” Manulat added. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
