Policeman shoots government technician
CEBU – Cebu City policeman allegedly shot and injured a 58-year-old government employee after the two engaged in a heated argument at around 2 a.m. yesterday in Nivel Hills, barangay Busay.
SPO1 Oliver Glodove allegedly shot Marcelino Tojino Jr., a technician of the Department of Agriculture, who remains in critical condition, as of this writing, after he sustained a gunshot wound on his chest.
Police recovered from the scene two 9 mm pistols with 13 rounds of ammunition, two metallic fragments of undetermined caliber, and two empty shells of 9mm bullets.
Homicide Police chief Mario Monilar said that Tojino’s son, Mark, pointed at Glodove as responsible for shooting the victim. But Monilar conducted further investigation upon learning of the presence of Jose Mendaros, Jr., who was reportedly standing near Glodove.
Glodove was detailed at the Mabolo Police Station, while Mendaros is a 34-year-old trader, and a resident of La Guardia of the said barangay.
Mark, who was looking out of the window of their house, said that his father Marcelino was having a heated argument with Glodove and his wife Charito.
In the process, Glodove reportedly fired at Marcelino, then ordered his brother to contact police assistance.
The victim was then carried to Mendaros’ car with plate number GPN 733 and was taken to the Perpetual Succour Hospital by the two suspects.
In an initial investigation, PO1 Lou Pagara disclosed that while the suspects were on their way to the hospital, they bumped onto two taxicabs at the corner of Gorordo Avenue and Escario Street; one was Richielda Taxi bearing plate number GXF-862 and the other, a Holiday Taxi, with plate number GVX-849.
The driver of the Holiday Taxi, identified as Leonardo Santerna Jr., and the passengers Cecilia Bautista and Ma. Christina Rohland sustained injuries. They were rushed to the Chong Hua Hospital.
At the hospital, Glodove surrendered to the responding Homicide Section team while Mendaros was detained at the Mabolo Police Station. — Bentley Naire Luyong, CIT MassCom intern/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
