Cordova shooting suspect posts bail

CEBU - After reportedly staying overnight at the Cordova Police Station, the man who allegedly shot the brother-in-law of the mayor of Cordova was released from prison after he was able to post bail yesterday.

Estanislao Yap, 34, a resident of barangay Day-as, was accused of frustrated murder for allegedly shooting Cecilio Ursal, 54, a resident of barangay Gabi, who is said to be the brother-in-law of Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy.

SPO1 Eustaquio Sanchez told The FREEMAN that the incident happened last August. He said that the suspect shot the victim with the use of a handgun. Ursal was wounded in the shoulder.

Police believe that personal grudge could have motivated the incident. After recuperating, Ursal then filed the case against the suspect.

Last Thursday afternoon, the warrant of arrest against Yap issued by Judge Victor Teves of the Regional Trial Court Branch 54 in Lapu-Lapu City was served by the Cordova police led by Police Insp. George Macapobre. However, Yap posted bail amounting to P200,000 yesterday. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV   (THE FREEMAN)
