Woman, son hacked by her live-in partner

CEBU - A man who was suffering from blurred eyesight hacked his live-in partner and her son in sitio Banica, barangay Lugo, Borbon town last Sunday morning after feeling she was no longer paying him enough attention.

Police identified the suspect as Benjamin Ylagan, 52, and the victims as Angela dela Cerna, 56, and her son Christopher dela Cerna, 23, who all lived in the same house.

PO3 Edgar Novabos told The FREEMAN that Ylagan felt she had been ignoring him as of late, an observation that started many of their recent arguments.

Last Saturday Florence dela Cerna, the daughter of the victim, heard a commotion in the room where her mother and Ylagan stayed. When she entered she saw her mother lying bloodied while the suspect was holding a bolo.

Florence shouted for help and Christopher tried to rescue his mother but was also hacked by Ylagan in the abdomen.

“Nakamaneho pa ug tigbas ang suspect kay naa paman siya’y makitang gamay nga hayag,” Novabos said.

The victims were rushed to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital and later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City while suspect surrendered to the police and was detained in the police station.

Relatives of the victims said Christopher died of his wound yesterday while the suspect is set to face charges today. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc and Bentley Naire Luyong (CIT Masscom intern)/BRP(THE FREEMAN)
