Lorega brgy. tanod to receive recognition

CEBU - Mariano Calbario, a tanod of barangay Lorega, will receive a special citation in tonight’s awarding ceremonies of the annual search for outstanding barangay tanods in Cebu City, said the executive committee for this year’s search. 

Calbario was wounded last month while manning a checkpoint along Echavez Street after one of two armed men boarding a jeepney shot him when the jeepney was flagged down for inspection.

Calbario was with two policemen when the incident happened. The policemen ran after the two armed men but to no avail.

According to the Execom, only 27 of the 80 barangays in Cebu City nominated tanods this year. All the 27 nominees would automatically receive P2,000 each and a plaque. The top 20, meanwhile, will receive another P2,000 and another plaque. Of the top 20, top four will be chosen- two each from the north and south districts. 

The top four will receive P15,000 and a plaque each. The barangay captains of the top four tanods would also receive P2,500 each.

Police Regional Office 7 Director Ronald Roderos will be tonight’s guest of honor.

The project is a coordinated effort between the city government and the Rotary Club of Cebu - Guadalupe to recognize and give importance to barangay tanods who have performed well in their respective barangays. — Ferliza C. Contratista/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
