CEBU - An 18-year-old man was found dead inside his house in sitio Aptol, barangay Upper Tulay, Minglanilla town yesterday morning after allegedly slashing his own throat.
Minglanilla police identified the victim as Jason Tani, reported to be a drug dependent.
PO1 Jade Abrica of the Minglanilla police station said it was the grandmother of the victim Angelina Tani who found him lying dead on the floor with a slash across his throat and clutching a Swiss army knife in his hand.
Police said the neighbors of the fatality reported that he suffered from a mental illness allegedly brought on by his illegal drug use; he also reportedly kept talking about killing himself.
The police are not yet discounting foul play in the incident.
Meanwhile, a man who stabbed a friend dead voluntarily surrendered to the Talisay police yesterday afternoon.
Jessie Alcoseba, 29, went to the police accompanied by Jaclupan barangay captain Joel Orbiso, after he stabbed his friend, a certain “Sergio”, last Sunday evening.
PO1 Lino Diez of the Talisay City police station said that the suspect and victim were drinking with friends in sitio Bagobo, Jaclupan, when they got into a drunken argument and Alcoseba stabbed the victim in the neck and killed him.
Another stabbing occurred along Rabaya St., barangay Poblacion, Talisay City, where trisikad driver Victor Juarez Jr., was stabbed by fellow trisikad driver Nilo Mitra Jr., 37, of PlainVill Subdivision, barangay Bulacao, Talisay City, last Sunday morning.
Diez, who is also the investigator of this crime, said that the victim was standing beside the road when the alleged assailant bumped him with his trisikad. The victim got angry and punched the alleged assailant who retaliated by stabbing him several times.
Juarez failed to make it alive to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while the alleged assailant fled.
Meanwhile, a jeepney dispatcher was shot dead by an unidentified man in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, last Sunday night.
Francis Depamaylo, 31, of barangay Lagtang, Talisay City, was coming home from drinking with fellow dispatchers when a man came and shot him twice, hitting him in the face and left wrist.
Bystanders brought Depamaylo to the Talisay City District Hospital but he died shortly after arrival. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
