Man suspected of raping own niece shot to death

A 19-year-old man was shot dead by an unknown assailant inside his house yesterday dawn in sitio Magkabayo, barangay Capyoan, Argao town.

According to PO1 Benjamin Gerosaga, desk officer of the Argao Police Station, the victim was suspected of raping his own niece.

 Gerosaga identified the victim as Eddie Mangaron Pernito, a native of Baybay, Southern Leyte who had been living in the said area in the past couple of years.

Ronnie Montebon, neighbor of Pernito, told the police that at around 1:40 a.m., she heard a gunshot near their house. When she looked out at the window, she said she saw a man running out of Pernito’s house. But she was not able to get a close look at the said man because her live-in partner warned her not to go outside of their house. 

Responding police discovered the body of the victim sprawled on the floor with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Last Saturday, Regional Trial Court Branch 26 Judge Maximo Perez of Argao issued summon to the victim who was accused of raping his own niece.

Argao Police are still conducting a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrator. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV
