Vidal wishes for peace between Tomas, Gwen

-

CEBU – Like his previous Christmas wish, Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal yesterday once again wished that mayor-on-leave Tomas Osmeña and Governor Gwendolyn Garcia “would stop their war of words.”

“They won’t get anything out of that… It does not fit with their dignity as our officials,” Vidal said, reiterating that he would be willing to help if necessary.

“Why not sit down together and talk? If they need me, I’m willing to help,” he said.

Vidal, however, clarified that he would not intervene unless asked to, to avoid being tagged once again as “pakialamero.” So far, neither Osmeña nor Garcia has reportedly sought for his help on the issue.

But Vidal said he has met both leaders in separate occasions, mostly in social gatherings and in those times when they wanted to discuss government projects that concern the church.

Today, Vidal would be celebrating his 37th year anniversary as bishop and 27th year here in Cebu.

Yesterday, Vidal prayed for Osmeña’s recovery from his cancer of the urinary bladder. The mayor is currently confined at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas where he will be undergoing another round of chemotherapy next week.

“I pray that you’ll be able to recover and return back here to serve us,” Vidal said in his prayer. — Liv G. Campo/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
