"Obese"cop dies after jogging in Sibonga

CEBU - A policeman assigned at the Regional Mobile Group-7 died early morning last Thursday after he collapsed and lost consciousness after jogging in Camp Ceperino Genovia in Sibonga town.

PO1 Junrey Sanopao, 28, resident of Burgos St., Feliciana Roxas Private, barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, was taken to three different hospitals in the province but he was declared dead at South General Hospital in Naga city.

Reports submitted by the RMG-7 to Police Regional Office-7 director Ronald Roderos showed that Sanopao fell down and lost consciousness while at the camp’s headquarters around 5:40 p.m. last Wednesday right after a class road run.

The victim together with some colleagues were allegedly walking and were about to enter the guard house when he suddenly collapsed.

Insp. Dexter Calacar and other personnel immediately brought Sanopao to the nearest Dieparine Medical Clinic for initial treatment but after 20 minutes, he remained unconscious that made his attending physician recommend bringing him to South General Hospital.

Sanopao’s three brothers came one after the other while his wife was not able to come because she was nursing their 11-month old daughter.

Despite efforts to revive him, Sanopao died at past 3 a.m. last Thursday.

Roderos said that Sanopao was overweight because he was only 5’4” in height but he weighs 80 kilograms.

The police official said this is the first time in his position as PRO-7 chief that a policeman died during training. According to him, RMG training involves a six-month physical fitness test to PO1s before they are being deployed.

Supt. Nestor Sator of the PRO-7 crime laboratory arrived to conduct autopsy on the body of Sanopao but refused.

The cadaver of the victim was brought to his residence in barangay Dumlog, Talisay City last Thursday night.
