Unlicensed gunsmith nabbed in Bohol town

CEBU - Agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested an unlicensed gunsmith and seized six assorted firearms in a raid on his house in barangay Sentinila, Ubay, Bohol yesterday morning.

CIDG-7 spokesman and deputy director Ritchie Posadas said 32-year-old Genaro Evali was nabbed by the team headed by Chief Inspector German Mallari during the raid.

Evali’s arrest came by virtue of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Ermazita Masamayor.

Evali’s father Genaro Sr. was not around during the raid but he will be included in the filing of criminal charges for violating the provisions of Republic Act 8294, or the Firearms Law.

CIDG-7 regional director Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said Genaro Sr. was already arrested by a joint team of policemen from the Bohol provincial police office and Regional Intelligence Division for the same offense but he was released after posting a bail bond.

Genaro Sr.’s wife, however, claimed that the charge that was earlier filed against her husband was already dismissed.

Eleazar ordered the surveillance of activities of the father and son after they received a tip from their informers that the suspects continued their nefarious activities.

It has been noted that snatchings of cell phones by motorcycle-riding armed men are rampant in Ubay town.

Seized from the suspects’ house are three 45 caliber pistols, two .38 caliber revolvers, a 22 magnum revolver, three barrels for guns, magazines and rounds of ammunition. — Rene U. Borromeo/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
