Guard in Bogo jailbreak relieved

-

CEBU - The guard on duty when eight inmates bolted out of the Bogo municipal jail near midnight last Sunday was relieved from his post last Wednesday and was re-assigned to the Provincial Security Group of the Provincial Police Office.

SPOI Edwin Cavalida is also facing a possible dismissal from service once formal charges for grave misconduct will be filed against him.

A case for infidelity in the custody of prisoners was earlier filed against him but Cavalida was able to post bail at P6,000 for his temporary liberty.

Meanwhile, provincial police chief Carmelo Valmoria said it was reportedly the family of Mariano Antiquena, the escapee who got killed during the incident, who decided to have his remains immediately buried and not undergo an autopsy.

Valmoria said they would have wanted to have Antiquena’s body autopsied to erase doubts of a foul play but the family reportedly refused. This is reportedly the reason why Antiquena’s body was buried in Bogo town and not in his hometown Sibonga.

Valmoria said the ongoing investigation on the incident is also being formally documented. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
