CEBU - Supt. Henry Biñas, administrative and legal officer of the Cebu City Police Office and former chief of the Fuente Police Station, has been designated as chief of the Talisay City Police Station.
Biñas assumed post yesterday and will serve in an acting capacity for 30 days until the city mayor formally installs him as city police chief.
The post was held by Sr. Insp. Jovito Canlapan for three months after he was designated as acting chief following the relief of Supt. Romeo Perigo.
Canlapan would assume as Biñas’ deputy but the former said he has not received any directive as of yesterday. After all, there are still other more senior officials who can be Binas’ deputy, Canlapan said.
Regional police office director Ronald Roderos said Biñas was selected by the Regional Senior Officer Replacement Board, considering that Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez does not personally know Biñas.
Biñas was selected from four other candidates. His edge is his being a lawyer and his experience in the urban areas, Roderos said.
Roderos met with Biñas yesterday and has instructed the latter to immediately coordinate with provincial police chief Carmelo Valmoria.
For his part, Valmoria said Biñas is “okay” and that he will give his own orders to the new chief anytime soon.
“Whoever is the OIC, he will be ordered to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling in Talisay,” Valmoria said. – Niña Chrismae Sumacot and Liv Ocampo/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
