CEBU - City Hall officials have asked Kamagayan barangay officials to check on the complaint raised by some residents against the alleged disturbing noise coming from a resto-bar located at the corner of Sanciangko and Pelaez Streets.
It was Councilor Edgardo Labella who first received of a complaint raised by a parent of a student renting a boarding house along Sanciangko Street that prompted the councilor to file a resolution asking the officials to verify the veracity of the complaint and to address it immediately.
Labella said that while resto-bars are the favorite hub of people looking for places to eat and unwind especially at night time, their management should see to it that their businesses do not disturb others who are already asleep.
The concerned parent claimed that the noise from the establishment goes beyond midnight, which is a violation of the city’s anti-noise ordinance.
The complainant explained that her son finds it hard to focus on his study at night because of the excessive noise coming from the resto-bar’s sound system.
Labella said the complainant told him that it seems the resto-bar has no soundproofing device to muffle the decibel of sound created by the music in the establishment.
With this, the councilor reminded those who operate resto-bars and similar other establishments that there is an existing city ordinance that prohibits loud and deafening noise from any source between 10 p.m. until the early morning of the following day.
Few months ago, the city also closed a similar establishment along D. Jakosalem Street for creating loud noise and operating without permit from the government. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
