CITOM told to intensify drunk driving campaign

CEBU - The City Traffic Operations Management has been called upon to strengthen its campaign against drunk driving at the onset of the Yuletide season.

Councilor Edgardo Labella, recently filed a resolution urging CITOM head Arnel Tancinco to renew and strengthen their campaign against drunk driving by issuing an advisory to the public.

This after three policemen were hit by a car while jogging along Gorordo Avenue after the driver, who was allegedly drunk, fell asleep, causing his vehicle to mow down and injure the three policemen.

“More often than not, the arrival of the months associated with the celebration of Christmas seems to easily stimulate a holiday mood connoting a rise in alcohol intake of motorists,” Labella said.

He said it will really do well for the concerned government agency to keep an eye on drivers under the influence of liquor.

City Ordinance 801 otherwise known as “An Ordinance Establishing a Traffic Code for the City of Cebu” mandated that no person who is intoxicated or who is under the influence of liquor or narcotic drugs shall operate or attempt to operate any vehicle on any street highway or in any place whatsoever within the City of Cebu. — Ferliza C.
