CEBU – A former barangay captain was arrested by police yesterday in barangay Tagbobunga, Asturias town for a frustrated murder charge.
Carlito Sandag, 55, was arrested around 2 a.m. yesterday at the barangay hall by policemen armed with a warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 23 Judge Generosa Labra.
Sandag is allegedly one of the four men who reportedly tried to kill Atlas labor leader Antonio Cuizon, who was ambushed last October 2005 in sitio Gaway-Gaway, barangay Uling, Naga town.
The other three who are also filed with the same charges are Robert Sandag, Danilo Carmelotes and Marcos Billones.
During the time of his arrest by policemen led by Asturias police chief Insp. Gerard Ace Pelare, the accused was with his wife, Miguela, who is the incumbent barangay captain.
SPO1 Jaime Roxas said that a snub-nosed .38 cal. revolver with five live rounds was recovered from one of the drawers in the barangay hall.
“Ambot ug unsa’y ilang business adtong higayuna basta didto sila naaresto sa kapulisan,” said Roxas, who confirmed that Sandag was a rebel returnee.
