Trainor accused of keeping students' money missing?

-

CEBU - An instructor of a high-speed sewing course at the Department of Manpower Development and Placement of the Cebu City government who allegedly failed to turn over students’ money is missing.

Maripas Amorado is no longer found in her residence, as reported by the messenger who was sent by Edna Jaca, head of the city’s skills and manpower development department, last Tuesday.

In yesterday’s press conference, Jaca confirmed that Amorado had already left her residence before the arrival of the messenger she had sent to hand over to Amorado a memorandum ordering the instructor to explain her side on the allegations lodged by five students.

Last Friday, the five students approached Jaca and complained that Amorado failed to provide them the materials she agreed to buy for their class project.

At DMDP, the services of the instructors are availed free but the students are required to shoulder the materials needed for the output.

Jaca said she issued a directive ordering all instructors not to accept contributions from students for the purchase of materials, except for the culinary course for which a certain amount is to be collected to cover the purchase of liquefied petroleum gas and the payment for water.

Jaca also said that Amorado, who had been with the DMDP for the last five years, was eyed the next head of the High-Speed Sewing Section being an understudy of a retiring official.

DMDP has two departments - the skills training and labor placement. It is working on a P10-million budget this year, but for proposed a P2-million supplemental budget for the upgrade of facilities needed for its accreditation from the Technical Education and Skills Development Administration. — Ferliza C.
