Brgys told to computerize applications for clearance

-

CEBU - To expedite the release of barangay clearances, Cebu City councilor Roberto Cabarrubias has urged barangays to intensify their efforts in implementing a computerized Barangay Clearance Application System.

Cabarrubias, who heads the committee on information and communication technology, said the computerization of barangays has long been promoted and encouraged in order to put an end to the tedious process of issuing barangay clearance.

In a resolution, the councilor said that the high prices of the computers and its applications were recognized as one problem in pursuing the said goal.

Aside from that, the lack of funds and technological expertise for maintenance and the continuing upgrade of the computers are also considered among the factors that hamper the project.

But in his resolution, Cabarrubias said that the City Council is willing to assist the computerization efforts of the barangay at a minimal cost for the acquisition of one unit computer with a web camera, printer and an installation training of P4,000. The assistance will be coordinated with the Department of Science and Technology and the Central Visayas Information Network.

Cabarrubias said a barangay may submit their resolution to the city to avail of the assistance.

A barangay clearance is one of the most basic requirements in seeking for employment starting from house helpers, store tender, driver and even bread seller, and also in the application for credits or loans and for business permits. — Ferliza C. Contratista/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
