One of 5 cars stolen in QC recovered from taxi operator

-

CEBU - The elements of the PNP Highway Patrol Group-7 based at the Camp Sotero Cabahug were able to recover five stolen vehicles, one of which was recovered from taxi operator Richard Corominas.

HPG-7 regional operations officer Simplicio Torredes said that the Toyota Altis sedan with plate number YDJ-877 that was recovered from Corominas is owned by one Sweet Tuazon of Honradez Street in Laging Handa, Quezon City.

Torredes said that Tuazon’s white car which bore plate number XTJ-310 was stolen by unidentified persons while it was parked in Quezon City.

It was discovered that the vehicle was carnapped when it was brought to the HPG-7 headquarters for clearance, being one of the requirements, so it could be registered under the name of Corominas.

Torredes said the engine and chassis numbers of the vehicle were tampered with, that is why the car is now being impounded at the HPG-7 headquarters pending further action.

Although Corominas might be only a victim, but he could still be charged with violation of Presidential Decree 1612, otherwise known as the anti-fencing law.

“Tambag nako niadtong gusto nga mopalit og sakyanan nga second hand, kinahanglang sa dili pa nila bayran, ila usa nga ipa-macro etching ug ipa-verify sa records sa highway patrol group aron mahibaw-an kun dili ba kinawat,” Torredes said.

The other recovered stolen vehicles are a Nissan Exalta, a Toyota Revo, a Toyota Fortuner, and a Toyota Hi-Ace. All of their engine serial numbers were intentionally tampered with.

Torredes said the Nissan Exalta with plate number WPY-713 was recovered from Roger Lawas, while the Toyota Revo with plate number XHK-254 was found in the possession of Joseph Burt Cañete.

The Toyota Fortuner was recovered from the possession of Dionesio Genodiala of Naga City. It was not mentioned in the report on from which possession was the Toyota Hi-Ace recovered.

Further, it was confirmed that all of the vehicles were stolen while these were being parked in different places in Quezon City. – Rene U. Borromeo/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
