Cebu City police director Patrocinio Comendador said the killing of the three suspected criminals who shot it out with the lawmen at a checkpoint along M. J. Cuenco Avenue last Sunday has encouraged the police to conduct more checkpoints.
“Paspasan pa g’yod namo ang paghimo’g mga checkpoint kay among natan-aw nga epektibo kaayo ni aron makontrahan ang mga criminal elements nga magsakay og motorsiklo,” Comendador’s deputy, Supt. Paul Labra II said.
Comendador also asked the public to cooperate with the police whenever they pass by a checkpoint because it is intended to ensure their safety and for the maintenance of peace and order all over the city.
According to Labra many have been arrested for carrying unlicensed firearms when they passed by checkpoints they have put in place.
Labra said a number of motorcycles have also been impounded by pending verification of ownership because its drivers have failed to show the registration during the checkpoint operation.
He advised the motorcycle riders to be sure that they always carry their registration papers while driving their vehicles because they are required to present them when they pass by a checkpoint.
Meanwhile, Comendador also advised the motorcycle riders not to be afraid of checkpoints if they have not committed any illegal activity.
A member of the Cebu City police Task Group Motorcycle said “Kon ang tawo, ilabi na’g magsakay og motor mokalit lang pagpasirit og padagan aron moikyas sa nag-checkpoint, masabot na nga nakahimo siya og illegal.”
Labra said each member of the CCPO-Motorcycle Task Group is given one liter of fuel everyday, except the civilian volunteers. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
