Sleepy driver hits jogging policemen

-

CEBU - Three police officers were injured when a Mitsubishi Space Wagon driven by a sleepy interior designer hit them while they were jogging along Escario St. with several other policemen early yesterday morning.

SPO3 Joel Suello of the Security and Service Group, SPO2 Miguelito Romano of the medical center at Camp Sotero Cabahug and SPO2 Enrico Iway of the Mandaue City police were rushed to the nearly Perpetual Succour Hospital with bruises in different parts of their body.

Traffic police investigator Armando Bañoc said that the driver, Antonio Angelo Rosello Jr., said what happened was an accident, as he admitted being sleepy at that time he was driving along Escario St. on his way home to barangay Apas.

Rosello was detained for a few hours but was later released with the concurrence of the three policemen after he promised to shoulder their hospital expenses.

The three policemen were among the close to 100 law enforcers from different police stations in Central Visayas taking the four-month Senior Leadership and Supervisory Course at the PNP-7 Regional Training School in barangay Apas.

Police officers who wish to be promoted will be required to undergo the training, which includes jogging very early every morning.

Bañoc said the police officers were already on their way back to the training center at past 5 a.m. yesterday when the accident occurred. — Rene U. Borromeo/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
