CEBU - A meat vendor was shot to death in Consolacion town while a nurse in Medellin town was killed in an accident on his way to work last Saturday.
Dominga Villacrucis, 35 of barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion, was shot by two unidentified assailants at the Cansaga Public Market, Saturday past 6 in the evening.
SPO2 Rizalino Aligno of Consolacion Police Station said that Villacrucis was tending her store when the two assailants approach her, posing as customers.
All of a sudden, one of the assailants shot her twice hitting her in the chest and abdomen. She was rushed to the hospital but did not make it there alive.
Two empty shells of a .45 cal. pistol were recovered from the scene.
According to Aligno, robbery was not the motive of the murder since the proceeds of her sales were still there.
He said they are now looking into both personal and business angles into the crime, both having to do with money matters.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old male nurse was killed in a motorcycle crash in Medellin town shortly before midnight Saturday.
PO2 Archimedes Villapes of Medellin Police Station said Frederick Lobitaña, 22, of San Remigio town was on his way to report for work at the Severo Verallo District Hospital when he figured in an accident in barangay Lamintak, Medellin, past 11 Saturday night.
Villapes said the rear of Lobitaña’s motorcycle caught on a coconut tree beside the road and made him lose control and slam into the pavement.
Lobitaña was not wearing a crash helmet at the time and sustained serious head injuries, Villapes said.
He later died at the same hospital where he was supposed to be on duty.
While traffic agencies want the use of helmets to be strictly implemented, police officials want this to be limited to an open helmet so they can identify criminals riding motorcycles. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
